Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui alasan mahasiswa FISH UNJ menggunakan second account Instagram serta bagaimana mereka menampilkan diri di second account Instagram dalam melakukan self-presentation. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan metode kuantitatif. Yang menjadi sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa aktif FISH UNJ berjumlah 98 mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara dengan kriteria responden yaitu mahasiswa FISH UNJ yang memiliki dan menggunakan second account Instagram minimal lima kali dalam seminggu. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan Skala Likert. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa second account Instagram digunakan sebagai media self-presentation yang lebih privat dan bebas dibandingkan akun utama. Presentasi diri pada second account dipengaruhi oleh empat aspek, yaitu diri Ideal Self, Multiple Self, Consistent Self, dan Online Presentation Preference. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan second account Instagram berfungsi sebagai sarana manajemen identitas, di mana terdapat pemisahan identitas antara citra profesional dan ekspresi sisi personal. Second account menjadi ruang yang memungkinkan mahasiswa menampilkan diri secara lebih jujur dan apa adanya kepada audiens tertentu. ***** This study aims to find out the reasons why FISH UNJ students use a second Instagram account and how they present themselves on the second Instagram account in performing self-presentation. This research is descriptive with a quantitative method. The sample in this study consisted of 98 active FISH UNJ students. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with the criteria that respondents were FISH UNJ students who have and use a second Instagram account at least five times a week. The research instrument used a Likert scale. This results show that a second Instagram account is used as a medium for self-presentation that is more private and free compared to the main account. Self-presentation on a second account is influenced by four aspects: the Ideal Self, Multiple Self, Consistent Self, and Online Presentation Preference. This study indicates that the use of a second Instagram account functions as a means of identity management, where there is a separation of identity between a professional image and personal expression. The second account becomes a space that allows students to present themselves more honestly and authentically to a specific audience.
