Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan suku kata menjadi kata pada siswa hambatan intelektual ringan kelas V di SLBN 4 Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan desain penelitian tindakan (action research) model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang meliputi tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi dalam dua siklus. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi tes dan non-tes. Tes dilakukan melalui tes lisan pada akhir setiap siklus, sedangkan teknik non-tes dilakukan melalui observasi, catatan lapangan, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas empat siswa. Data dianalisis secara kuantitatif dengan menghitung nilai rata-rata keterampilan membaca siswa pada setiap siklus, sedangkan secara kualitatif dilakukan dengan mendeskripsikan perubahan keterampilan membaca siswa pada setiap siklus berdasarkan hasil observasi, wawancara, dan catatan lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keterampilan membaca permulaan. Nilai rata-rata kemampuan awal siswa sebesar 33, meningkat menjadi 57 pada siklus I, dan meningkat kembali menjadi 88 pada siklus II, sehingga terjadi peningkatan 30 poin sesuai dengan indikator keberhasilan penelitian. Secara kualitatif, siswa menunjukkan perubahan perilaku belajar dari yang semula membutuhkan bimbingan intensif menjadi mandiri serta mampu menyebutkan dan menunjukkan suku kata dan kata. Dengan demikian, metode suku kata efektif digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan pada siswa hambatan intelektual ringan kelas V. ***** This study aims to improve the initial reading skills of syllables into words in fifth-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLBN 4 Jakarta. This research uses a quantitative and qualitative approach with a Kemmis and McTaggart action research model design, which includes the planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages in two cycles. Data collection techniques include tests and non-tests. Tests are conducted thru oral tests at the end of each cycle, while non-test techniques are carried out thru observation, field notes, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of four students. The data was analyzed quantitatively by calculating the average reading skills of students in each cycle, while qualitatively it was done by describing the changes in students' reading skills in each cycle based on the results of observations, interviews, and field notes. The research results show an improvement in early reading skills. The average initial ability score of the students was 33, which increased to 57 in cycle I and further increased to 88 in cycle II, resulting in a 30-point improvement in line with the research success indicator. Qualitatively, students showed a change in learning behavior from initially requiring intensive guidance to becoming independent and able to pronounce and point out syllables and words. Therefore, the syllable method is effective in improving early reading skills in fifth-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities.
