Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan, yaitu: (1) memaknai penokohan Untung Surapati dalam medium naskah kuno (babad), novel, dan animasi; serta (2) memaknai terjadinya transformasi pada unsur penokohan Untung Surapati dalam medium yang berbeda. Landasan teoretis utama yang diterapkan adalah teori penokohan dari Nurgiyantoro untuk membedah struktur karakter, serta adaptasi untuk menganalisis proses transformasi melalui konsep konvensi, deviasi, dan inovasi.. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif, data dianalisis melalui lima tahapan, yaitu: identifikasi tokoh, peran tokoh, analisis dimensi penokohan (Fisik, psikologis, sosiologis), perubahan tokoh dan hubungannya dengan alur, klasifikasi penokohan bulat atau statis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun penokohan Untung Surapati secara konsisten ditampilkan sebagai tokoh bulat, terjadi transformasi akibat proses adaptasi. Transformasi tersebut mencakup tiga aspek utama: (1) konvensi terhadap media,; (2) deviasi pada identitas tokoh, seperti perubahan nama menjadi “Jaka Untung” dan penambahan atribut visual di animasi; perubahan melalui penambahan tokoh Robert di novel yang memperdalam konflik psikologis, serta penciutan tokoh di animasi; dan (3) inovasi sisi rapuh Untung yang memiliki dendam pribadi dan keraguan; serta penambahan tokoh perempuan selain Nona Gendhak pada novel. Disimpulkan bahwa setiap medium tidak hanya mereproduksi, tetapi juga merekonstruksi penokohan Untung Surapati sesuai konvensi medium dan tujuan komunikasinya, yang membuktikan sifat dinamis sebuah narasi historis. Kata kunci: Animasi, Babad, Multitransfromasi, Novel, Penokohan ********************************************************* This study aims to achieve two objectives: (1) to interpret the characterization of Untung Surapati across the mediums of ancient manuscripts (Babad), novels, and animation; and (2) to analyze the transformation process resulting from media adaptation regarding Untung Surapati's characterization in these different mediums. The primary theoretical framework applied includes Nurgiyantoro’s characterization theory to dissect character structure, as well as adaptation theory to analyze the transformation process through the concepts of convention, deviation, and innovation. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data analysis was conducted in five stages: character identification, role analysis, analysis of characterization dimensions (physical, psychological, and sociological), character development in relation to the plot, and classification of round versus static characters. The results indicate that although Untung Surapati is consistently portrayed as a round character, significant transformations occur due to the adaptation process. These transformations encompass three main aspects: (1) media conventions; (2) deviation in character identity, such as the name change to "Jaka Untung" and the addition of visual attributes in the animation, as well as changes through the addition of the character Robert in the novel which deepens psychological conflict, and character reduction in the animation; and (3) innovation regarding Untung's fragility, featuring personal vendettas and doubts, as well as the addition of female characters other than Nona Gendhak in the novel. It is concluded that each medium does not merely reproduce but actively reconstructs the characterization of Untung Surapati according to its specific conventions and communicative purposes, demonstrating the dynamic nature of historical narratives.
