Abstract

Penelitian ini terdiri dari empat tujuan, yaitu (1) Untuk mengetahui struktur dalam novel I Think I Am Ugly karya Isrina Sumia dengan menggunakan teori Robert Stanton. (2) Untuk mendeskripsikan penggambaran sosiologi pengarang dalam novel dengan menggunakan teori Ian Watt. (3) Untuk mendeskripsikan penggambaran aspek-aspek sosial dalam novel dengan menggunakan teori Soelaeman..(4) Untuk mendeskripsikan penggambaran ciri-ciri body shaming dalam novel dengan menggunakan teori Vargas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam novel ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif. Objek yang digunakan yaitu novel I Think I Am Ugly karya Isrina Sumia. Data yang digunakan yaitu berupa kutipan atau dialog yang ada di dalam novel, yang mengandung unsur intrinsik, sosiologi pengarang, aspek-aspek sosial, dan ciri-ciri body shaming dalam novel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan teori strukturalisme dalam novel terdiri dari tema dan fakta cerita (karakter, alur, dan latar). Sementara itu, sosiologi pengarang meneliti tentang konteks sosial pengarang, gambaran sastra sebagai cerminan masyarakat, dan fungsi sosial sastra. Aspek-aspek sosial menunjukkan tentang budaya, lingkungan sosial, dan ekonomi. Ciri-ciri body shaming yang terdapat di dalam novel yaitu 18 data ciri body shaming dengan mengkritik penampilan sendiri, 10 data ciri body shaming dengan mengkritik penampilan orang lain di depan orangnya, dan 2 data ciri body shaming dengan mengkritik penampilan orang lain di belakang orangnya. ***** This study consists of four objectives, namely (1) to identify the structure of the novel I Think I Am Ugly by Isrina Sumia using Robert Stanton’s theory; (2) to describe the representation of the sociology of the author in the novel using Ian Watt’s theory; (3) to describe the representation of social aspects in the novel using Soelaeman’s theory; and (4) to describe the characteristics of body shaming in the novel using Vargas’s theory. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. The object of this study is the novel I Think I Am Ugly by Isrina Sumia. The data used are in the form of quotations or dialogues in the novel that contain intrinsic elements, the sociology of the author, social aspects, and characteristics of body shaming. The results of the study show that the structuralism theory in the novel consists of theme and facts of the story (characters, plot, and setting). Meanwhile, the sociology of the author examines the social context of the author, literature as a reflection of society, and the social function of literature. The social aspects include culture, social environment, and economy. The characteristics of body shaming found in the novel consist of 18 data showing self-criticism of physical appearance, 10 data showing direct criticism of others’ appearance, and 2 data showing indirect criticism of others’ appearance.
