Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan budaya akademik di SMAN 8 Jakarta berdasarkan tiga lapisan budaya organisasi Edgar H. Schein, yaitu espoused values, artifacts, dan basic underlying assumptions. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif pasif, dan studi dokumentasi, lalu dianalisis melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) internalisasi nilai akademik berlangsung secara sistematis, kolektif, dan berkelanjutan melalui MPLS, pembiasaan kelas, keteladanan guru, kebijakan kurikulum, program pendalaman materi, serta dukungan teman sebaya, orang tua, komite, dan alumni; nilai yang dominan meliputi disiplin, kompetitif sehat, kesungguhan, inisiatif, karakter, dan penghargaan terhadap prestasi; (2) artifacts budaya akademik tampak pada program akademik berjenjang, ritual penghargaan prestasi, semboyan sekolah “cerdas, tangguh, peduli”, penggunaan sumber belajar yang kredibel, serta praktik pembelajaran yang aktif, kolaboratif, dan menuntut kualitas; dan (3) basic underlying assumptions bertumpu pada pandangan bahwa belajar merupakan kebutuhan dan kewajiban, sedangkan prestasi dimaknai tidak hanya sebagai nilai, tetapi juga sebagai proses, karakter, tanggung jawab, dan kesiapan masa depan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa budaya akademik di SMAN 8 Jakarta terbentuk dari keterpaduan antara nilai yang dinyatakan, artefak budaya, dan asumsi dasar yang hidup dalam keseharian warga sekolah, sehingga mampu dipertahankan lintas generasi dan berkontribusi terhadap prestasi siswa serta mutu pendidikan sekolah Kata kunci: budaya akademik, budaya organisasi, espoused values, artifacts, basic underlying assumptions ***** This study aimed to describe the academic culture at SMAN 8 Jakarta based on Edgar H. Schein’s three levels of organizational culture, namely espoused values, artifacts, and basic underlying assumptions. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and document analysis, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that: (1) the internalization of academic values is carried out systematically, collectively, and continuously through student orientation, classroom habituation, teacher role modeling, curriculum policies, academic enrichment programs, as well as support from peers, parents, the school committee, and alumni; the dominant values include discipline, healthy competition, diligence, initiative, character, and appreciation for achievement; (2) the artifacts of academic culture are reflected in tiered academic programs, achievement recognition rituals, the school motto “smart, resilient, caring,” the use of credible learning sources, and active, collaborative, and quality oriented learning practices; and (3) the school’s basic underlying assumptions are grounded in the view that learning is both a need and an obligation, while achievement is understood not only as grades, but also as process, character, responsibility, and future readiness. This study concludes that the academic culture at SMAN 8 Jakarta is formed through the integration of declared values, visible cultural artifacts, and underlying assumptions embedded in the daily life of the school community, enabling it to be sustained across generations and to contribute to student achievement and educational quality.
