Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the perceptions of Social Studies teachers regarding the implementation of the Deep Learning approach at SMP Negeri 232 Jakarta, along with its influencing factors, as a response to the demands of 21st-century educational transformation that shifts rote learning towards more meaningful learning. This study employs a qualitative method through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, involving four informants as research subjects: one Vice Principal of Curriculum and three Social Studies teachers. Based on the first research focus, the results conclude that the teachers' perceptions are proven to be positive. The teachers perceive Deep Learning as an innovative solution to transform learning to be more positive by focusing on mental readiness (mindful), a safe atmosphere (joyful), and the meaningfulness of the materials (meaningful), all of which culminate in concrete actions in the classroom. Furthermore, regarding the second research focus, this positive perception is driven by a combination of internal factors from within the teachers, which include the need to overcome the students' focus crisis, experiences, interests, and the ability to manage emotions, as well as being influenced by external factors that include intensive training support from school policies, the novelty of the method, and a strong culture of informal peer discussions that provides a free space for teachers to innovate.
