Abstract
Kata Kunci: peran sekolah, diskriminasi, anak berkebutuhan khusus, pendidikan inklusif/This research aims to examine the role of schools in addressing discrimination against children with special needs (ABK). The theory used refers to Role Set Theory developed by Robert K. Merton, considering the concepts of role strain, role conflict, and role clusters in the context of inclusive education. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research was conducted at SMAN 36 Jakarta from June 2025 to January 2026. Four subjects participated: the vice principal, a guidance and counseling teacher, a sociology teacher, and a chemistry teacher. Data collection techniques included literature review, observation, and in-depth interviews. Data analysis employed the interactive model analysis by Miles and Huberman. The results of the study indicate that discrimination against children with special needs is subtle (subtle discrimination) in the form of restrictions on interaction, jokes and behavior towards children with special needs, veiled intimidation, and the exclusion of children with special needs from group work activities by their peers. The role of schools in overcoming discrimination, First, campaigning for inclusive education through posters, appeals, and socialization. Second, building social cohesion between students with special needs and non-special needs. Third, the approach of private teachers. Fourth, adjustment of tasks and assessment systems. Fifth, providing alternative assignments as a substitute for remedial. The main obstacles in office include the unavailability of special assistant teachers (assistant teachers), the lack of teacher competence in the field of inclusive education, and the absence of specific inclusive curriculum guidelines. These findings emphasize the need for more systemic and institutional efforts so that inclusive education in public schools can truly guarantee the rights of children with special needs to be treated equally and protected. Keywords: role of schools, discrimination, children with special needs, inclusive education
