Abstract

************************************************************ This study aimed to examine the effect of artificial intelligence dependency on academic self-efficacy among Indonesian college students. This study used a non-experimental quantitative approach. This study involved a total of 307 diploma, undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in Indonesia who were obtained using a purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study were The Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (TASES) and the AI Dependence Scale (AIDep-22). Hypothesis testing was conducted using hierarchical regression analysis by controlling covariate variables consisting of gender, semester GPA, and frequency of AI use in academic assignments. The results showed that artificial intelligence dependency had a significant negative effect on academic self-efficacy among Indonesian college students. The higher the level of students’ artificial intelligence dependency, the lower their academic self-efficacy. This study is expected to encourage students to use AI wisely while also serving as a consideration for policymakers in the education sector in developing learning strategies.
