Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan unsur struktur novel serta menganalisis kecemasan dan mekanisme pertahanan ego tokoh utama dalam novel Anjing Mengeong, Kucing Menggonggong karya Eka Kurniawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud dan teori struktural Robert Stanton. Metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa baca, simak dan catat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fenomena kecemasan dalam novel bersumber dari konflik batin yang berkembang sejak masa kanak-kanak. Konflik tersebut dibangun melalui berbagai peristiwa yang berkaitan dengan tuntutan moral dan keagamaan dari Ayah, sehingga memengaruhi perkembangan psikologis Sato Reang sepanjang cerita. Unsur struktur novel meliputi plot, tokoh, dan latar saling berkaitan dalam membangun dinamika psikologis tokoh utama. Plot menghadirkan berbagai peristiwa yang memicu konflik, tokoh menjadi pusat pengalaman psikologis, sedangkan latar mendukung terbentuknya situasi yang memunculkan kecemasan. Bentuk kecemasan yang dialami Sato Reang meliputi kecemasan realitas akibat ancaman nyata, kecemasan neurotis muncul karena ketakutan terhadap dorongan diri yang tidak terkendali, sedangkan kecemasan moral muncul akibat tuntutan nilai-nilai moral dan keagamaan. Dari ketiga bentuk tersebut, kecemasan moral menjadi dominan. Dalam menghadapi kecemasan tersebut, Fantasi menjadi mekanisme yang paling dominan digunakan untuk mengurangi kecemasan yang dialaminya. **** Anxiety and ego defense mechanisms of the main character in Eka Kurniawan’s novel Anjing Mengeong, Kucing Menggonggong. This study employs Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory and Robert Stanton’s structural theory. The method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques consisting of reading, observing, and note taking. The results of the study indicate that the phenomenon of anxiety in the novel stems from an inner conflict that has developed since childhood. This conflict is constructed through various events related to the moral and religious demands of the father, thereby influencing Sato Reang’s psychological development throughout the story. The structural elements of the novel, including plot, characters, and setting, are interrelated in shaping the main character’s psychological dynamics. The plot presents various events that trigger conflict, the characters serve as the center of psychological experience, and the setting supports the formation of situations that give riset o anxiety. The forms of anxiety experienced by Sato Reang include reality anxiety resulting form real threats, neurotic anxiety arising form fear of uncontrollable inner impulses, and moral anxiety stemming from the demands of moral and religious values. Of these theree forms, moral anxiety is the most dominant. In coping with this anxiety, fantasy becomes the primary mechanism he uses to alleviate the anxiety he experiences.
