Abstract

***** This study aims to determine the effect of the forward chaining technique, aided by a visual schedule, on improving early-stage toilet training skills among first-grade students with Down syndrome at State Special Education School 02 in Jakarta. The study employed an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approach using the forward chaining technique. The research method used was Single Subject Research (SSR) with an A-B-A design, consisting of baseline 1 (A1), intervention (B), and baseline 2 (A2). The results showed that during baseline 1 (3 sessions), the subject consistently scored 0 out of 4. During the intervention phase (8 sessions) using the forward chaining technique, the score gradually increased until reaching a maximum score of 4 in the 8th session and remained stable through the 11th session. In baseline 2 (3 sessions), the subject continued to achieve a maximum score of 4 in all sessions, indicating that the skills acquired during the intervention phase were maintained even after the intervention had ended. It is concluded that the forward chaining technique, aided by a visual schedule, is effective in improving and maintaining toilet training skills among first-grade students with Down syndrome at SLB Negeri 02 Jakarta, transforming them from an initial state of being unable to perform a series of toilet training skills independently and consistently to being able to do so.
