Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji dinamika pemaknaan busana muslimah di kalangan mahasiswi Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum Universitas Negeri Jakarta (FISH UNJ), khususnya negosiasi antara tuntutan syariat Islam dan pengaruh tren fesyen kontemporer. Menggunakan metode kualitatif melalui wawancara, kuesioner, dan observasi partisipatif, penelitian ini dianalisis dengan teori konstruksi sosial Berger-Luckmann, negosiasi identitas Stuart Hall, dan tindakan sosial Max Weber. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pemaknaan busana muslimah terbentuk melalui dialektika eksternalisasi, objektivasi, dan internalisasi, menghasilkan norma visual kampus seperti dominasi gaya "kerudung jahat". Mahasiswi aktif bernegosiasi melalui strategi resistensi, adaptasi kreatif (layering), dan selektivitas tren, dengan pola kecenderungan moderat-adaptif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa busana muslimah di lingkungan kampus merupakan praktik sosial yang dinamis dan hibrid, di mana nilai religius dan estetika fesyen terus dinegosiasikan secara bersamaan. ***** This study examines the dynamics of the interpretation of Muslim women’s clothing among female students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Jakarta State University (FISH UNJ), specifically the negotiation between the demands of Islamic law and the influence of contemporary fashion trends. Using qualitative methods through interviews, questionnaires, and participant observation, this study is analyzed using Berger-Luckmann’s social construction theory, Stuart Hall’s theory of identity negotiation, and Max Weber’s concept of social action. The results indicate that the meaning of Muslim women’s attire is shaped through a dialectic of externalization, objectification, and internalization, resulting in campus visual norms such as the dominance of the “evil hijab” style. Female students actively negotiate through strategies of resistance, creative adaptation (layering), and trend selectivity, exhibiting a moderate-adaptive tendency. This study concludes that Muslim women’s attire in the campus environment is a dynamic and hybrid social practice, where religious values and fashion aesthetics are continuously negotiated simultaneously.
