Abstract

***** This study aims to describe the character of Shindo Minato and analyze the process of operant behavior change in the Japanese adaptation of the film series entitled Good Doctor (2018). This study uses a literary psychology approach with an analytical descriptive method and an observational note-taking technique, using the theory of character portrayal techniques according to Nurgiyantoro (2002), the theory of operant behavior according to Skinner (in Alwisol, 2019), and the broken mirror theory according to Elvaretta, et. al (2023). Of the 23 data obtained, 14 data describe Shindo Minato's character which includes honest (3 datas), quick to respond (5 data), impulsive (1 data), persistent (2 data), caring (2 data), and intelligent (1 data), which are identified through conversational techniques, behavioral techniques, and reaction techniques of other characters, and all are closely related to the condition of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that he has as explained through the broken mirror theory. Meanwhile, 9 data analyzed using Skinner's theory indicate that Shindo's behavior underwent gradual changes through a process of positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, shaping, and extinction, all working simultaneously until Shindo successfully established his identity as a competent and recognized pediatric surgeon.
