Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the relationship between digital ethics knowledge and attitudes toward the misuse of deepfake technology as a medium for cyberbullying among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 233 Jakarta. This study employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 233 Jakarta with a sample of 157 eighth-grade students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through the administration of a digital ethics knowledge test and a questionnaire on attitudes toward the misuse of deepfake technology as a medium for cyberbullying. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, analysis of prerequisites, and the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The research analysis was based on the concepts of digital ethics, attitudes, the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen), and digital citizenship. The results showed a correlation coefficient of -0.632 with a significance level (Sig., 2-tailed) of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a strong negative relationship between digital ethics knowledge and attitudes toward the misuse of deepfake technology as a medium for cyberbullying. The study’s findings indicate that the greater students’ knowledge of digital ethics, the less likely they are to misuse deepfake technology as a means of cyberbullying. This study concludes that knowledge of digital ethics is significantly associated with attitudes toward the misuse of deepfake technology as a means of cyberbullying; therefore, strengthening knowledge of digital ethics is essential for fostering responsible behavior among digital citizens.
