Abstract
***** Indonesia is one of the countries with a high risk of natural disasters, requiring volunteer involvement in every disaster management effort. This study aims to describe the professional quality of life of natural disaster volunteers in Sumatra. This study uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. Sampling was conducted using a convenience sampling technique on 100 respondents who are volunteers of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) who served in the flood response in Sumatra at the end of 2025. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring one variable, namely professional quality of life, using the Professional Quality of Life Scale Version 5, which had been adapted through a forward-backward translation technique with 30 items. The analysis techniques used included the mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values, as well as frequency distribution and percentage for each category level of professional quality of life, with the assistance of SPSS software. The results showed that on the compassion satisfaction dimension, the majority of PMI volunteers (62%) were in the high category and 38% were in the moderate category, with no respondents in the low category. On the burnout dimension, the majority of volunteers (69%) were in the low category, 31% were in the moderate category, and no respondents were in the high category. On the secondary traumatic stress dimension, the majority of volunteers (56%) were in the low category, 40% were in the moderate category, and only 4% were in the high category.
