Abstract
***** TikTok user-generated content (UGC) videos serve as a source of product information for Generation Z. However, personal presentation does not necessarily ensure that the content is perceived as authentic, the information is considered high quality, or the surrounding interactions are capable of building consumer trust. Variations in information accuracy, relevance, completeness, and the quality of interactions among users raise questions about how purchase intention is formed after consumers watch TikTok UGC videos. This study aims to examine the effects of Perceived Authenticity, Information Quality, and Social Interaction Quality on Generation Z’s Purchase Intention, both directly and indirectly through Perceived Trust. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The unit of analysis consisted of Generation Z individuals aged 17–29 years who lived in the five administrative cities of Jakarta, used TikTok, had watched a TikTok UGC video about a product, and had not purchased the product discussed in the video. The sample was selected using non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling method, resulting in 252 respondents. Data were collected through a six-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0.9.9. The results indicate that Perceived Authenticity, Information Quality, and Social Interaction Quality each have positive and significant effects on Perceived Trust and Purchase Intention. Perceived Trust also has a positive and significant effect on Purchase Intention. Among all direct relationships, Social Interaction Quality on Perceived Trust produced the highest path coefficient of 0.262. The indirect effect analysis indicates that Perceived Trust partially mediates the effects of Perceived Authenticity, Information Quality, and Social Interaction Quality on Purchase Intention. This study concludes that trust is an internal mechanism linking consumers’ evaluations of TikTok UGC videos with their purchase intention. However, trust is not the only mechanism because the three stimuli continue to have direct effects on Purchase Intention. These findings support the application of the Stimulus-Organism-Response framework by positioning Perceived Authenticity, Information Quality, and Social Interaction Quality as stimuli, Perceived Trust as the organism, and Purchase Intention as the response.
