Abstract
**** This study examines the representation of insecurity and its expression through implicature in selected songs from Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS (2023). It aims to identify the characteristics of insecurity portrayed in the lyrics, the types of implicature employed, and explain how implicature functions in conveying insecurity. This research applies Maslow's theory of Psychological Security-Insecurity (1942) and Grice's theory of Implicature (1989) using a descriptive interpretative qualitative method. The analysis reveals that 10 of the 14 insecurity characteristics proposed by Maslow are represented in the lyrics, resulting in 55 data. Among these, chronic dissatisfaction (8) and feelings of guilt, shame, and self-condemnation (11) are the most prevalent characteristics, each contributing 20% of the total findings. All three types proposed by Grice are identified. Generalized Conversational Implicature (58.1%) occurs most frequently, followed by Particularized Conversational Implicature (30.6%) and Conventional Implicature (11.3%). Overall, the study demonstrates that adolescent insecurity in GUTS (2023) is largely characterized by persistent dissatisfaction, self-criticism, and emotional vulnerability, which are constructed through various strategies.
