Abstract
**** This study investigates the use of puns as a medium of socio-political criticism on the @plisitin account on social media X. Grounded in Searle’s speech act theory, this study aims to identify the forms and functions of illocutionary speech acts in the account’s posts during the first 200 days of Prabowo-Gibran’s administration, and to examine the perlocutionary effects generated by such utterances. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation and note-taking technique. The data consist of 40 posts classified into six thematic contexts: the 12% VAT increase, budget efficiency, the TNI and Polri Bills controversy, the Band Sukatani case, the Pertamina corruption case, and the Indonesia Gelap movement. The analysis reveals that illocutionary speech acts identified include assertive (17 utterances), expressive (18 utterances), and directive (5 utterances), while commissive and declarative acts were not found in this study. The perlocutionary effects, synthesized into a scheme of perlocutionary patterns (wordplay adaptation, reaction to humor, critique extension, question/clarification, validation, and counter-narrative), show that the wordplay adaptation and reaction-to-humor patterns were the most widely distributed, appearing across nearly all data, while critique extension was found across all themes with varying intensity, and the question/clarification and counter-narrative patterns were the least frequently observed.
