Abstract
***** The emergence of the “Marriage is Scary” phenomenon reflects the growing anxiety among women regarding marriage. One manifestation of this anxiety is the fear of eventually having a spouse who resembles their father. This study aimed to examine the effect of father involvement on marriage anxiety among women in early adulthood. This study employed a quantitative approach with a non-experimental design. The participants consisted of 285 unmarried women in early adulthood aged 18–40 years, selected using a convenience sampling technique. The instruments used were the Father Involvement Scale (FIS) developed by Finley and Schwartz (2004) and the Marriage Anxiety Scale (MAS) developed by Çelik and Erkilet (2019). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression, and the results showed that father involvement had a significant negative effect on marriage anxiety (p < .001). Father involvement accounted for 7.1% of the variance in marriage anxiety. These findings indicate that higher levels of father involvement are associated with lower levels of marriage anxiety, whereas lower levels of father involvement are associated with higher levels of marriage anxiety. Therefore, father involvement is one of the factors contributing to marriage anxiety among women in early adulthood.
