Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tokoh Kotaro dalam anime Kotaro Lives Alone (Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi) karya Mami Tsumura sebagai gambaran anak mandiri. Penelitian ini berfokus pada tiga permasalahan, yaitu (1) bagaimana karakter tokoh Kotaro digambarkan, (2) bagaimana bentuk kemandirian yang ditunjukkan tokoh Kotaro, dan (3) faktor-faktor apa yang memengaruhi terbentuknya sikap mandiri pada tokoh Kotaro. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik analisis isi (content analysis). Data penelitian berupa adegan, dialog, dan tindakan tokoh Kotaro yang dikumpulkan melalui teknik simak-catat dan dokumentasi dari sepuluh episode anime tersebut, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori penokohan serta teori kemandirian anak menurut Steinberg (2002) yang mencakup tiga aspek, yaitu kemandirian perilaku, emosional, dan nilai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Kotaro digambarkan sebagai anak usia dini yang tenang, sopan, bertanggung jawab, dan memiliki kematangan berpikir yang melampaui usianya. Bentuk kemandirian yang ditunjukkan Kotaro mencakup ketiga aspek kemandirian secara seimbang dan muncul secara konsisten di sepanjang sepuluh episode. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa sikap mandiri Kotaro dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman hidup yang sulit akibat ketiadaan pengasuhan orang tua, trauma akibat kekerasan dalam keluarga, serta dukungan lingkungan sosial berupa tetangga apartemen yang perlahan menggantikan peran keluarga. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya kajian representasi karakter anak dalam media anime serta memberikan pemahaman mengenai nilai-nilai kemandirian anak dalam konteks pendidikan karakter.*****This study aims to analyze the character of Kotaro in the anime Kotaro Lives Alone (Kotaro wa Hitorigurashi) by Mami Tsumura as a depiction of an independent child. The study focuses on three research questions: (1) how the character of Kotaro is portrayed, (2) what forms of independence Kotaro demonstrates, and (3) what factors influence the formation of Kotaro's independent attitude. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using content analysis techniques. The data consist of scenes, dialogues, and actions of Kotaro collected through observation and documentation across ten episodes of the anime, which were then analyzed using characterization theory and Steinberg's (2002) child independence theory covering three aspects: behavioral, emotional, and value autonomy. The findings show that Kotaro is portrayed as a young child who is calm, polite, responsible, and possesses a maturity of thought far beyond his age. The forms of independence Kotaro displays encompass all three aspects in a balanced and consistent manner throughout the ten episodes. Furthermore, the study found that Kotaro's independent attitude is shaped by difficult life experiences resulting from the absence of parental care, trauma from family violence, and the support of the surrounding social environment, particularly his apartment neighbors, who gradually came to replace the role of family. This research is expected to enrich the study of child character representation in anime media and provide insight into the values of child independence within the context of character education.
