Abstract

The rapid growth of embedded SIM (eSIM) technology has not been matched by a proportional increase in adoption among Indonesian users, although Generation Z is globally recognized as the age cohort most receptive to this innovation. This study examines the effect of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and perceived risk on the behavioral intention to use eSIM among Generation Z residing in DKI Jakarta, employing an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) that incorporates perceived risk as an additional construct. A quantitative associative causal design was used, with primary data collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 154 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS Statistics. The results show that perceived ease of use (β = 0.248; t = 2.888; p = 0.004) and perceived usefulness (β = 0.504; t = 5.840; p = 0.000) have a positive and significant effect on behavioral intention, while perceived risk (β = -0.170; t = 3.219; p = 0.002) has a negative and significant effect. Together, the three variables explain 60.4% of the variance in behavioral intention (Adjusted R² = 0.604). These findings confirm the relevance of the extended TAM in explaining digital technology adoption and suggest that telecommunication operators should simplify activation processes, communicate tangible usefulness, and strengthen data security to accelerate eSIM adoption among Generation Z.
