Abstract
Kata kunci: penggambaran, budaya patriarki, ketidaksetaraan gender, resistensi, semiotika John Fiske , feminisme, drama Tiongkok, bahasa Mandarin ***** Television drama, as a form of literary work, not only serves as entertainment but also reflects social realities through social issues presented as conflicts within the storyline. This study aims to describe the portrayal of patriarchal culture, manifestations of gender inequality, and forms of resistance in the Chinese drama 《焕羽》 “Reborn”. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data were analyzed using John Fiske’s semiotics and the theories of liberal and radical feminism. The results show that patriarchal culture is potrayed through four characteristics such as male hierarchy and authority, son preference, the subordination of women, and gender stigma and stereotypes directed at women. This study also reveals various manifestations of gender inequality and the forms of resistance against patriarchal culture demonstrated by the female character. The findings indicate that the practice of patriarchal culture within the Qiao family is associated with a one-sided application of Confucian values, causing a deviation from their ideal purpose of maintaining social harmony. Keywords: portrayal, patriarchal culture, gender inequality, resistance, John Fiske’s semiotics, feminism, Chinese drama, Chinese language
