Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi pesan moral sikap pantang menyerah yang terdapat dalam film “Big World” (2024) melalui kalimat pernyataan yang diucapkan oleh tokoh Liu Chunhe dan Chen Suqun. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa kalimat pernyataan yang mengandung representasi sikap pantang menyerah dalam film “Big World” (2024). Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi dan simak-catat, sedangkan analisis data mengacu pada model Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña yang meliputi kondensasi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Interpretasi data dilakukan menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall (1997), dengan indikator sikap pantang menyerah yang disusun berdasarkan sintesis teori Peterson dan Seligman, Duckworth, Bandura, Masten, serta Snyder, yang meliputi ketekunan, kerja keras, konsistensi terhadap tujuan, tidak mudah putus asa, kemampuan bangkit, kemampuan mencari solusi, dan keyakinan terhadap diri sendiri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 31 kalimat pernyataan yang merepresentasikan sikap pantang menyerah, terdiri atas 18 kalimat yang diucapkan oleh Liu Chunhe, 3 kalimat Liu Chunhe ketika menjelaskan sebuah puisi, dan 10 kalimat yang diucapkan oleh Chen Suqun. Representasi sikap pantang menyerah dibangun melalui bahasa tokoh yang dikonstruksi berdasarkan konteks cerita, tindakan, serta situasi sosial yang dialami tokoh. Indikator yang paling dominan ditemukan adalah kerja keras dan keyakinan terhadap diri sendiri. Dominasi tersebut tampak melalui perjuangan Liu Chunhe dalam memperoleh pekerjaan, membiayai pendidikannya, membuktikan kemampuannya meskipun menghadapi diskriminasi akibat cerebral palsy, serta melalui perjuangan Chen Suqun dalam mencari nafkah, melindungi keluarga, dan menciptakan kesempatan agar cucunya memperoleh kehidupan yang lebih baik. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa representasi sikap pantang menyerah dalam film tidak hanya dibangun oleh tokoh utama, tetapi juga diperkuat oleh tokoh pendukung sehingga menghadirkan pesan moral mengenai pentingnya kerja keras, kepercayaan diri, ketangguhan, dan dukungan keluarga dalam menghadapi berbagai tantangan kehidupan. Kata kunci: representasi, pesan moral, sikap pantang menyerah, Stuart Hall, Big World, Bahasa Mandarin. ***** This study aims to analyze the representation of the moral message of perseverance in the film “Big World” (2024) through the declarative sentences uttered by the characters Liu Chunhe and Chen Suqun. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The research data consist of declarative sentences that represent perseverance in the film “Big World” (2024). Data were collected through documentation and note-taking techniques, while data analysis followed the qualitative analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data interpretation was conducted using Stuart Hall's (1997) theory of representation, with perseverance indicators synthesized from the theories of Peterson and Seligman, Duckworth, Bandura, Masten, and Snyder, including perseverance, hard work, consistency toward long-term goals, optimism, resilience, problem-solving ability, and self-efficacy. The findings reveal 31 declarative sentences representing perseverance, consisting of 18 uttered by Liu Chunhe, 3 spoken by Liu Chunhe while explaining a poem, and 10 uttered by Chen Suqun. The representation of perseverance is constructed through the characters' language, which is closely connected to the story context, the characters' actions, and the social situations they experience. The most dominant indicators identified are hard work and self-efficacy. These are reflected in Liu Chunhe's efforts to obtain employment, finance his own education, and prove his abilities despite facing discrimination due to cerebral palsy, as well as in his grandmother's efforts to earn a living, protect her family, and create opportunities for her grandson to achieve a better life. The findings indicate that the representation of perseverance in the film is conveyed not only through the protagonist but also reinforced by supporting characters, thereby delivering moral messages about the importance of hard work, self-confidence, resilience, and family support in overcoming life's challenges.
