Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis kebutuhan tokoh utama, menganalisis tingkatan hierarki kebutuhan, menjelaskan proses pemenuhannya, serta mengkaji implikasi hasil penelitian dalam pembelajaran sastra Arab pada novel Hadrat Al-Muhtaram karya Naguib Mahfouz. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra berdasarkan teori hierarki kebutuhan Abraham Maslow. Data penelitian berupa kutipan narasi, dialog, monolog, dan deskripsi tokoh yang berkaitan dengan kebutuhan tokoh utama, Othman Bayumi. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik membaca dan mencatat, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis isi (content analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 70 data yang terdiri atas 4 data kebutuhan fisiologis, 8 data kebutuhan keamanan, 22 data kebutuhan sosial, 18 data kebutuhan penghargaan, dan 18 data kebutuhan aktualisasi diri. Kebutuhan sosial merupakan kebutuhan yang paling dominan, terutama berkaitan dengan cinta, kedekatan emosional, pasangan hidup, dan keluarga. Proses pemenuhan kebutuhan juga menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda: sebagian kebutuhan terpenuhi, sebagian tidak terpenuhi, dan sebagian lainnya mengalami hambatan atau hanya terpenuhi secara bertahap. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dimanfaatkan dalam pembelajaran sastra Arab sebagai bahan analisis psikologis tokoh melalui identifikasi bukti tekstual, pemahaman konteks, dan interpretasi perkembangan kebutuhan tokoh. ***** This study aims to describe the types of needs of the main character, analyze the hierarchy of needs, explain the process of fulfilling those needs, and examine the implications of the research findings for the teaching of Arabic literature in Naguib Mahfouz’s novel Hadrat Al-Muhtaram. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach based on Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. The research data consist of narrative excerpts, dialogues, monologues, and character descriptions related to the needs of the main character, Othman Bayumi. Data were collected through reading and note-taking, then analyzed using content analysis. The results show that there were 70 data points, consisting of 4 data points related to physiological needs, 8 to safety needs, 22 to social needs, 18 to esteem needs, and 18 to self-actualization needs. Social needs were the most dominant, particularly those related to love, emotional closeness, a life partner, and family. The process of need fulfillment also yields varying results: some needs are met, some are unmet, and others face obstacles or are met only gradually. The findings of this study can be utilized in the teaching of Arabic literature as material for the psychological analysis of characters through the identification of textual evidence, contextual understanding, and interpretation of the characters’ developmental needs.
