Abstract
The objective of this research was to understand comprehensively politeness in the speech of character in “kobo-chan” comic. It was a qualitative research with content analysis methods in “Kobo-chan” comic. The data were collected through speech of character in comic, observation, and recording. The data analysis and interpretation indicated that politeness in the speech of character in “kobo-chan” comic, positive politeness and negative politeness, and culture politeness in the Japanese speech . The findings lead to the recommendation for the students to understand comprehensively politeness in Japanese and for teachers to use “Kobo-chan” comic as an alternative learning sources about politeness in Japanese. It is also recommended to other researcher to use this research for continue reseach.
