Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh data secara empiris tentang pendekatan pembelajaran whole language terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas 1 Sekolah Dasar Negeri Guntur 03 Pagi, Setiabudi, Jakarta Selatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yakni action research dengan subjek 30 siswa, adapun pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara data pemantauan tindakan berupa observasi, catatan lapangan, dokumentasi dan data hasil penelitian. Di awali dengan kegiatan pra siklus siswa diberikan tes awal terlebih dahulu untuk mengetahui kemampuan dasar siswa sebelum dilakukan pendekatan pembelajaran whole language. Kemudian dilaksanakan siklus 1 dengan menggunakan pendekatan who/e language dan diperoleh 20 siswa dengan nilai di atas Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal. Berikumya dilanjutkan dengan siklus 2 dan diperoleh 26 siswa dengan nilai di atas Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan melalui dua siklus, dengan perolehan rata-rata pra siklus sebesar 64,86%, siklus 1 sebesar 75,94% dan siklus 2 sebesar 88,64%. Temuan pada penelitian ini adalah keinginan meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan dengan menggunakan pendekatan whole language. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa penerapan pendekatan whnle language sangat tepat dilakukan dan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar di Jakarta Selatan. Kata kunci: Mole language, Membaca permulaan, Sekolah dasar ************** Abstract This study aims to obtain empirical data about the whole language learning approach towards improving the beginning reading ability of grade 1 students at Guntur 03 Pagi Elementary School, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. The method used in this research is action research with the subject of 30 students, while data collection is done by means of action monitoring data in the form of observation, field notes, documentation and research data. Starting with pre-cycle activities, students are given a preliminary test to find out the basic abilities of students before the whole language leaFning appFoach is carried out. Then cycle 1 was caFried out using the whole language approach and obtained 20 students with scores above the Minimum Completeness Criteria. Then proceed with cycle 2 and obtained 26 students with scores above the Minimum Completeness Criteria. This research was conducted through two cycles, with the pre-cycle average yield of 64.86%, cycle 1 was 75.94% and cycle 2 was 88.64%. The finding of this study is the desire to improve reading skills at the beginning by using a whole language approach. The results of this study indicate that the application of the whole language approach is very appropriate and can improve the beginning reading ability of grade I elementary school students in South Jakarta.
