Abstract
Assessment in higher education is believed to be valuable for students, teachers, institutions, and stakeholders. The quality of assessment tasks can be foreseen through students’ perceptions. This study aims to obtain the information on the perception of ELE-SP UNJ undergraduates regarding assessment tasks (ATs) employed in Phonetics and Phonology (PP) and Morphology and Syntax (MS) courses through three sub-research questions. (1) To what extent ATs present congruence with planned learning? (2) To what extent ATs provide student consultation? (3) To what extent ATs display transparency? The research questions are answered by qualitative survey design through the employment of questionnaire and interview. It was found that students perceived that ATs in PP presented high congruence with planned learning (mean: 4.48), and provided moderate transparency (mean: 4.00), even though they were uncertain about the provision of student consultation (mean: 3.35). As for the ATs in MS, students perceived that ATs in MS provided moderate congruence with planned learning (mean: 3.88), moderate student consultation (mean: 3.45) and moderate transparency (mean: 3.96).
