Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti penggunaan strategi penerjemahan subtitle milik Gottlieb dan mencari karakteristik strategi pengalihan bahasa dalam film dengan genre yang berbeda. Penelitian analisis deskriptif ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis konten untuk menganalisis data dimana data tersebut didapat dari subtitle film The Expendables 3 (action), Neighbors (comedy), and The Fault in Our Stars (romance). Setelah menganalisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi penerjemahan milik Gottlieb dapat diterapkan di ketiga film tersebut dengan urutan frekuensi yang berbeda-beda. Karakteristik pengalihan bahasa di ketiga film tersebut bersifat literal, directional, and faithful dikarenakan transfer menjadi strategi yang paling banyak digunakan. Serta strategi penerjemahan milik Gottlieb sering digunakan secara bersamaan tanpa adanya tumpang-tindih satu sama lain. This study aims to investigate the use of Gottlieb’s strategies and discover the characteristics of subtitling strategies in movies with different genres. This descriptive analytical study uses content analysis as the approach to analyze the data in which the data are taken from The Expendables 3 (action), Neighbors (comedy), and The Fault in Our Stars (romance) movie subtitles. After analyzing the data, the findings obtained show that strategies proposed by Gottlieb are applicable as they are employed in the three movies with different order of frequency. Besides, transfer constitutes the main part of the strategies utilized in the three movies in this study indicating the characteristics of the subtitling which are literal, directional and faithful. The findings also indicate that strategies proposed by Gottlieb often appear simultaneously in combination without any evidence of overlapping one another.
