Abstract

Kohesi leksikal adalah sebuah aspek untuk menghasilkan teks yang kohesif. Surat lamaran adalah tulisan singkat yang dibuat oleh pelamar untuk mendapatkan wawancara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan kohesi leksikal dalam surat lamaran dari ujian mahasiswa di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris dan ketepatan penggunaannya di surat lamaran. Jumlah sumber data adalah 40 surat lamaran yang diambil dari tiga kelas wacana bisnis di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris dari program pendidikan dan sastra di semester 102 tahun 2015. Analisis isi digunakan untuk menganalisis kohesi leksikal dengan menggunakan teori yang diusulkan oleh Halliday. Temuan menunjukkan dari 40 surat lamaran terdapat 265 alat kohesi leksikal yang digunakan. Pengulangan adalah yang paling sering muncul dengan persentase 71,32%. Diikuti oleh kehiponiman 13,96%, sanding kata 11,32%, kesinoniman 2,26%, keantoniman 0,75%, dan yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah kemeroniman 0,37%. Penggunaan alat kohesi leksikal umumnya tepat dengan persentase 96,22%, sementara 3,77% penggunaannya tidak tepat. Lexical cohesion is an aspect in providing a cohesive text. Application letter is a concise essay made by the applicant to grant an interview. This study aims to discover the lexical cohesion in the application letter of student's examination at English Department and the appropriateness used in the application letters. The total number of data source was 40 application letters taken from three classes of business discourse class at English Department both from educational and literature programs in the semester 102 in the year of 2015. Content analysis was conducted to analyze lexical cohesion by using a theory proposed by Halliday. The finding shows that from fourty application letters made by the English Department students there are 265 lexical cohesion devices used. All types of lexical cohesion devices are applied. Repetition is the most frequently occur with percentation of 71,32%. Followed by hyponymy 13,96%, collocation 11,32%, synonymy 2,26%, antonymy 0,75% and the least used is meronymy 0,37%. The usage of lexical cohesion devices are mostly appropriate with percentage of 96,22%, while 3,77% are used inappropriately.
