Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis code glosses yang digunakan di dalam Jurnal Artikel baik yang ditulis oleh orang Indonesia maupun penutur asli Bahasa Inggris dan penggunaan code glosses dalam konteks dan fungsinya. Analisis konten digunakan sebagai metode dalam menganalisis penggunaan code glosses. Penulis menggunakan teori code glosses yang diajukan Ken Hyland tahun 2007 dalam menganalisis data. Data dikumpulkan dari 10 korpus jurnal artikel yang berasal dari orang Indonesia dan penutur asli Bahasa Inggris. Jurnal yang dianalisis dipilih berdasarkan topik yang berkaitan dengan Linguistik Terapan. Setelah menganalisis data, ditemukan 231 kemunculan code glosses dengan jumlah masing-masing 134 code glosses ditemukan di Jurnal penutur asli Bahasa Inggris dan 97 code glosses ditemukan pada jurnal orang Indonesia. Dalam penemuan ini ditemukan bahwa semua tipe code glosses yaitu eksplanasi, implikasi, parafrasa, spesifikasi, dan eksemplifikasi digunakan di kedua jurnal. Ini menunjukkan bahwa kedua penulis dari kedua jurnal menunjukkan kepahaman akan hubungan antar penulis dan pembaca dalam tulisan di jurnal tersebut. Penemuan untuk code glosses yang digunakan dari segi konteks menunjukkan bahwa code glosses diperlukan oleh penulis di beberapa konteks terutama ketika mereka ingin menulis sebuah karya ilmiah atau jurnal artikel. Maka dari itu, code glosses dianjurkan dalam penulisan akademik yang mengharuskan tulisannya mudah dipahami. Berdasarkan konteks tersebut, kita bias menyimpulkan bahwa code glosses berfungsi untuk mempertegas pemahaman pembaca tentang apa yang penulis ingin katakan dan membantu penulis dalam memberikan contoh. This study was aimed to analyze the code glosses employed in the journal articles written by Indonesian and English Native speakers and the code glosses used in terms of context and function. Content analysis was applied as a method in analyzing the use of code glosses. The writer used the theory of code glosses proposed by Hyland (2007) to analyze the data. The data is compiled from 10 journal articles from both Indonesian and English Native journal articles. The journal articles were chosen based on the topic related to Applied Linguistics. After analyzing the data, 231 occurrences of code glosses were found; 134 code glosses in English Native journal articles and 97 found in Indonesian journals. The findings showed that all types of code glosses; explanation, implication, paraphrase, specification, and exemplification are applied in both journal articles. Meaning that, the writers from both journals were aware of the writer-reader friendly writing in those journals. Findings of the code glosses used in terms of contexts indicates that code glosses is needed for the writer in some context especially when they want to write a scientific papers or journal articles. So that, the code glosses is recommended in the academic writing that should be easy to understand. Based on the context, we can conclude that the code glosses functions are emphasize the readers understanding of what the writers are trying to state and assist the writer in providing example.
