Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis fenomena karakteristik androgini yang terdapat dalam tokoh wanita dengan latar belakang pekerja. Konsep Liberal Feminisme Friedan mendorong wanita untuk mencapai kebebasan dan kepenuhan diri melalui pendidikan dan pekerjaan, bukan hanya hubungan pernikahan atau memiliki keturunan. Friedan mengadopsi konsep androgyny dari Bem untuk menunjukkan pentingnya memahami karakteristik dari maskulin dan feminin yang memungkinkan pria dan wanita dengan tujuan dapat saling memahami dan bekerja sama untuk membangun kehidupan yang baik. Konsep androgini juga berperan penting terutama bagi wanita sebagai penanggulangan dari krisis identitas yang disebabkan oleh pekerjaan, dimana wanita harus mengadopsi karakteristik maskulin yang kerap kali bertentangan dengan sifat alami feminin nya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif analitik untuk menganalisis tokoh wanita Jane Eyre yang memiliki pekerjaan sebagai governess untuk mengetahui bagaimana Jane menyeimbangkan karakteristik maskulin dan feminin nya untuk mewujudkan idealisme dan mempertahankan harga dirinya sebagai wanita. Hasil penelitian mengindikasi bahwa Jane Eyre merupakan tokoh androgini yang menjunjung tinggi kebenaran hati nuraninya sebagai bentuk kepenuhan diri. Kata kunci: androgyny, liberal feminisme, Jane Eyre, female worker ***** This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of androgynous characteristics contained in female characters with a working background. Friedan's Liberal Feminism concept encourages women to achieve freedom and self-fulfillment through education and work, not just marriage or having children. Friedan adopted the concept of androgyny from Bem to show the importance of understanding the characteristics of the masculine and feminine that enable men and women to understand each other and work together to build a good life. The concept of androgyny also plays an important role, especially for women as a response to an identity crisis caused by work, where women have to adopt masculine characteristics that often conflict with their feminine nature. This study uses an analytic descriptive approach to analyze the female character Jane Eyre who has a job as a governess to find out how Jane balances her masculine and feminine characteristics to embody idealism and maintain her self-esteem as a woman. The results of the study indicate that Jane Eyre is an androgynous character who upholds the truth of her righteousness as a form of self-fulfillment.
