Abstract

Jepang merupakan salah satu negara maju yang masyarakat memiliki minat baca yang tinggi. Hal ini dapat terlihat dari kebiasaan warganya yang sering terlihat sibuk membaca dimanapun, baik di kereta, bus, ataupun di toko-toko swalayan, baik sambil duduk maupun berdiri. Banyak dijumpainya fenomena membaca sambil berdiri di Jepang melahirkan istilah tachiyomi (立ち読み) yang secara harfiah berarti membaca sambil berdiri (立ち = berdiri, 読み = membaca). Namun selain diartikan sebagai kegiatan membaca sambil berdiri, tachiyomi juga dapat diartikan sebagai kegiatan membaca di toko buku tanpa membeli. Fenomena tachiyomi di Jepang menimbulkan pertanyaan mengenai asal usul lahirnya fenomena tersebut, serta pandangan masyarakat terhadap fenomena tachiyomi. Tujuan penulisan makalah ini adalah untuk menjelaskan sejarah berkembangnya fenomena tachiyomi, serta menjelaskan pandangan pemilik toko buku, pembaca, dan hukum terhadap fenomena tachiyomi dalam kehidupan masyarakat Jepang. Makalah ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan mengumpulkan data studi pustaka dari berbagai sumber. Manfaat yang diharapkan dari penulisan makalah ini adalah pemahaman mengenai aspek positif dari fenomena tachiyomi yang terjadi pada masyarakat Jepang sehingga dapat diadaptasi dalam kehidupan masyarakat di Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Tachiyomi, Literasi, Minat Baca. ***** Japan is one of the developed countries where people have a high interest in reading. This can be seen from the habits of its citizens who are often seen busy reading anywhere, whether on trains, buses, or in convenience stores, either while sitting or standing. The phenomenon of reading while standing in Japan gave birth to the term tachiyomi (立ち読み) which literally means reading while standing (立ち = standing, 読み = reading). However, apart from being defined as reading while standing, tachiyomi can also be defined as reading in a bookstore without buying. The phenomenon of tachiyomi in Japan raises questions about the origin of the phenomenon, as well as people's views on tachiyomi. The purpose of this paper is to explain the history of the development of the tachiyomi phenomenon, as well as to explain the views of bookstore owners, readers, and the law on the tachiyomi phenomenon in Japanese society. This paper uses a qualitative descriptive method by collecting literature study data from various sources. The expected benefit of writing this paper is an understanding of the positive aspects of the tachiyomi phenomenon that occurs in Japanese society so that it can be adapted to the lives of people in Indonesia.
