Abstract

Japan is a country with various cultures, both traditional culture and modern culture. One type of culture is Japanese food. Japanese food is of course very famous in the world. Japanese food has influences from various countries, one of which is nikujaga. Nikujaga is a type of stew or soup whose basic ingredient is meat. Nikujaga is a food that originated in England and was then adapted by Japan with ingredients found in Japan. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to determine the development of nikujaga from when it was first discovered until now. There are several points that the author discusses in this paper, namely, food culture, Japanese food in general, the history of nikujaga and also the development of nikujaga until now. In conclusion, the nikujaga that is currently frequently consumed by Japanese people is nikujaga which has been modified with basic ingredients and spices using ingredients typical of Japan. Apart from that, even though nikujaga is a home-cooked food, nikujaga is currently available in instant form. Keywords: nikujaga, origin of nikujaga, Japanese food
