Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai suatu fenomena yang biasa dilakukan oleh siswa ketika masuk ke dalam jenjang SMA, yaitu pemilihan jurusan. Lokasi penelitian yang diambil yaitu di SMA Negeri 97 Jakarta yang berlokasi di kota Jakarta Selatan. Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan yaitu, pertama, mendeskripsikan latar belakang pembentuk rasionalitas siswa dalam memilih jurusan. Kedua, mendeskripsikan relasi actor dan sumber daya dalam membentuk rasionalitas pemilihan jurusan siswa. Untuk penelitian ini, metodologi kualitatif digunakan, dan studi kasus digunakan sebagai metodologi pengumpulan data. Wawancara mendalam, observasi, dokumentasi, dan analisis data deskriptif adalah metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara dengan siswa, orang tua, guru BK, dan Wakil Kepala Sekolah Bidang Kurikulum dari SMA Negeri 97 di Jakarta sebagai sumber data utama. Ide-ide dari wawancara ini akan dianalisis kemudian dengan mempertimbangkan konsep tentang status sosial dan pemilihan jurusan, serta teori pilihan rasional yang diusulkan oleh James S. Coleman. Penelitian dilakukan mulai Juli 2022 hingga September 2023. Dari hasil penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemilihan jurusan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dilatarbelakangi oleh beberapa faktor, baik faktor internal maupun faktor eksternal. Faktor yang paling berpengaruh yaitu faktor internal atau faktor yang berasal dari dalam diri siswa yaitu minat bakat dan orientasi kedepan. Mengenai kepentingan dan alasan siswa dalam memilih jurusan dilatarbelakangi oleh faktor yang sudah disebutkan sebelumnya. Selain dilatarbelakangi oleh beberapa faktor, dari hasil penelitian siswa juga sudah dapat mempertimbangkan untung rugi dari jurusan yang mereka pilih. Selain itu dalam konteks pilihan rasional, sumber daya yang mempengaruhi pemilihan jurusan siswa yaitu keluarga dan potensi diri. Karena kedua hal tersebut yang mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap keputusan actor dalam memilih jurusan. Dari keputusan tersebut nantinya akan memberikan benefit atau keuntungan bagi siswa maupun bagi orang-orang disekitarnya juga. Berkaitan dengan pandangan pemilihan jurusan yang dapat mempengaruhi status sosial belum sepenuhnya terbukti. Dikarenakan adanya perubahan kurikulum yang otomatis membuat sistem jurusan dihapus di sekolah. Tetapi pandangan tersebut masih banyak beredar di masyarakat dan kembali lagi bagaimana kita menyikapi pandangan tersebut. ***** This study discusses a phenomenon that is usually done by students when entering high school, namely the selection of majors. The research location taken is at SMA Negeri 97 Jakarta which is located in the city of South Jakarta. This research aims to, first, describe the background that forms the rationality of students in choosing majors. Second, to describe the relationship between actors and resources in shaping the rationality of students' choice of majors. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Then, the data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation as well as descriptive data analysis. Primary data in this study were obtained from interviews with residents of SMA Negeri 97 Jakarta, including students, parents, counseling teachers, and the Vice Principal for Curriculum. The results of the interviews will then be analyzed with the concept of major selection and social status, and supported by the theory of rational choice proposed by James S. Coleman. This research was conducted from July 2022 to September 2023. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the choice of majors made by students is motivated by several factors, both internal and external factors. The most influential factors are internal factors or factors that come from within students, namely interest talent and future orientation. Regarding the interests and reasons of students in choosing a major, they are motivated by the factors mentioned earlier. Apart from being motivated by several factors, from the results of the study students have also been able to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the majors they choose. In addition, in the context of rational choice, the resources that influence students' choice of majors are family and self-potential. Because these two things have a significant influence on the actor's decision in choosing a major. From this decision, it will provide benefits or benefits for students and for the people around them as well. Regarding the view of choosing a major that can affect social status, it has not been fully proven. Due to curriculum changes that automatically make the major system removed in schools. But this view is still widely circulated in society and returns to how we respond to this view.
