Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan media sosial Instagram sebagai sarana bereksistensi diri para peserta didik kelas 7 SMPN 222 Jakarta. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Adapun subjek dari penelitian ini yaitu 9 peserta didik kelas 7 SMPN 222 Jakarta. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik kelas 7 SMPN 222 Jakarta dalam menggunakan Instagram sebagai sarana eksistensi diri sesuai dengan lima kebutuhan khalayak menurut teori Uses and Gratification yaitu, cognitive needs, affective needs, personal integrative needs, social integrative needs, dan escapist need. Dan eksistensi diri pada peserta didik kelas 7 SMPN 222 Jakarta terbentuk sesuai dengan aspek yang dikemukakan oleh Langle diantaranya perception, recognition of value, freedom, dan responsibility. This research aims to determine the use of social media Instagram as a means of self-existence for grade 7 students at SMPN 222 Jakarta. The research method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive research method with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research were 9 grade 7 students at SMPN 222 Jakarta. The results of this research show that grade 7 students at SMPN 222 Jakarta use Instagram as a means of self-existence following the five needs of the audience according to the Uses and Gratification theory, cognitive needs, affective needs, personal integrative needs, social integrative needs, and escape needs. The self-existence of grade 7 students at SMPN 222 Jakarta is formed following the aspects stated by Langle, including perception, recognition of values, freedom, and responsibility.
