Abstract

“Penggambaran Vigilantisme dalam Film “The Batman” (2022)” adalah tesis yang meneliti tema Vigilantisme atau main hakim sendiri dalam film. Penelitian ini menawarkan analisis menyeluruh terhadap film The Batman untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana film tersebut menggambarkan Vigilantisme dan bagaimana karakter-karakter di dalamnya terlibat dengan Vigilantisme. Dengan menganalisis karakter, elemen verbal dan visual yang diutarakan oleh Joseph M. Boggs dan Dennis W. Petrie dalam buku mereka yang berjudul The Art of Watching Films, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi bagaimana film ini menggambarkan bagaimana kekuasaan digunakan dan disalahgunakan dalam sistem kelembagaan dan ketidakpercayaan publik sebagai akibatnya yang pada akhirnya mengarah pada berbagai motivasi di balik tindakan main hakim sendiri. Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana elemen film menggambarkan karakter dalam dinamika kekuasaan, keadilan, tanggapan masyarakat terhadap korupsi yang dirasakan dan inefisiensi dalam masalah penegakan hukum. Penelitian ini menekankan pada dilema etis, dualitas, dan konsekuensi dari tindakan main hakim sendiri, dengan menggunakan kode moral yang kontras dari karakter-karakter dalam film yang melakukan tindakan main hakim sendiri seperti Batman, The Riddler, dan Catwoman. Tesis ini bertujuan untuk memberikan wawasan tentang hubungan kompleks antara hubungan kekuasaan, ketidakpercayaan publik, dan vigilantisme dalam masyarakat kontemporer. ***** “Portrayal of Vigilantism in the Film “The Batman” (2022)” is a thesis examining the theme of Vigilantism or the act of taking justice into own hands in the film. This study offers a thorough analysis of The Batman film to explore how the film portrays vigilantism and how the characters are involved in vigilantism. By analysing the characters, verbal, and visual elements proposed by Joseph M. Boggs and Dennis W. Petrie in their book titled The Art of Watching Films, the study explores how the film portrays how power is being used and abused in institutional systems and the public distrust as the result which eventually leads to the varying motivations behind vigilante actions. The study discusses how the element of the film portrays the character in power dynamics, justice, societal responses to perceived corruption and inefficiency in law enforcement issues. The study emphasizes the ethical dilemmas, duality, and consequences of vigilantism, using the contrast moral codes of characters in the film which enacts vigilantism like Batman, The Riddler, and Catwoman. This thesis aims to provide insights into the complex connection of power relation, public distrust, and vigilantism in contemporary society.
