Abstract

************************************************** The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze student’s analytical thinking skills during Distance Learning through the 5E Learning Cycle model on the topic stoichiometry based on green chemistry. The study was conducted at SMAN 45 Jakarta in the 2020/2021 academic year with the subject 28 students of class X MIPA 1. The study employed qualitative methods by collecting data through test, observation, student’s worksheet, reflective journals and student interviews. The 5E Learning Cycle through five stages of learning, namely engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation. Analytical thinking ability include of four indicator, namely identifying problems, connecting patterns, identifying and evaluating, and conclude the main idea. The results of the study showed 61,9% of students reached enough levels on the indicators of identifying problems, 57.1% of students reached good levels on indicators connecting patterns, 66,7% of students reached poor levels on indicators identifying and evaluating and 71,4% of students reached good levels on indicators concluded the main idea. The application of the 5E Learning Cycle model has a positive impact to development student's analytical thinking skills through group discussion methods. The 5E Learning Cycle model is in accordance with constructivism learning theory where students' analytical abilities are built by interacting pro-socially in discussions with their groups.
