Abstract

ABSTRACT Gita Indriani. 2020. Dysphemism Used in Blackkklansman Movie. English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Letters and Arts, State University of Jakarta. One of several figures of speech is dysphemism. Dysphemism is the use of negative utterances to describe something or someone. This study aims at identifying dysphemism types and finding out the meaning of dysphemism utterances used in Blackkklansman movie based on Allan and Keith Burridge’s (2006) dysphemism theory. The method applied is qualitative descriptive method. The result of the study found that there are 202 utterances which indicate four types of dysphemism in Blackkklansman movie, there were IST-dysphemism (47%), synecdoche (29%), naming or addressing (13%), hyperbole (7%), and cross cultural dysphemism (4%). The meanings of dysphemism shown from the data are; showing the speaker’s anger (106 utterances), insulting something or someone (70 utterances), and showing closeness between friend or family (20 utterances). In conclusion, the most frequent type of dysphemism is IST-dysphemism type showing the speaker’s anger towards others who have different races. The least frequent type is cross-cultural dysphemism and function of dysphemism reflects closeness among speakers. Keyword: Dysphemism, Blackkklansman, Allan & Burridge. ABSTRAK Gita Indriani. 2020. Disfemisme adalah pengunaan ungkapan-ungkapan negatife untuk menggambarkan sesuatu maupun seseorang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasikan jenis disfemisme dan untuk mengetahui makna ucapan disfemisme yang digunakan dalam film Blackkklansman berdasarkan teori dari Allan & Keith Burridge (2006). Metode yang digunakan adalah metode desktiptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa ada 202 ucapan yang menunjukkan empat jenis disfemisme dalam film Blackkklansman yakni; IST-dysphemism (47%), Synecdoche (29%), Naming or addressing (13%), Hyperbole (7%) dan Cross cultural dysphemism (4%). Makna disfemisme yang ditunjukan pada data adalah; expressing the speaker’s anger (106 ucapan), insulting someone or something (70 ucapan), showing closeness between friend and families (20 ucapan). Kesimpulannya, tipe disfemisme yang paling sering ditemukan adalah tipe IST-dysphemism yang expressing the speaker’s anger terhadap orang lain yang memiliki ras berbeda. Jenis yang paling jarang ditemukan adalah cross-cultural dysphemism dan makna disfemisme showing closeness between friend and families. Kata kunci: Disfemisme, Blackkklansan, Allan & Burridge.
