Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of self-esteem as a moderator of the influence of jealousy on relationship satisfaction among emerging adults in romantic relationships. A total of 166 respondents participated in this study, with criteria including males or females aged 18 to 25 years who had been in a romantic relationship for at least 9 months. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling techniques. This study is a quantitative research using Moderated Regression Analysis for data analysis. Jealousy in this study was measured using the Multidimensional Jealousy Scale by Pfeiffer Wong (1989), while self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale by Rosenberg (1965), which was adapted to suit the study sample. Meanwhile, relationship satisfaction was measured using the Relationship Assessment Scale by Hendrick (1988), which was adapted by Putri (2023). The results of the study indicate that there is a significant influence between cognitive jealousy and behavioral jealousy on relationship satisfaction. Self-esteem was also found to have a positive effect on relationship satisfaction. However, on the other hand, although there is an influence between self-esteem and relationship satisfaction, the results of the study indicate that self-esteem cannot act as a moderator of the influence of jealousy on relationship satisfaction.
