The main focus of this study is to reveal the function and form of lexical presuppositions in the context of legal communication between judges, military prosecutors, legal advisors, defendants, and witnesses. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach and data collection techniques such as observation, free, involvement, competence, and recording techniques. The data is processed using preconception function grouping that refers to the speech act theory framework and preconception theory. The results of this study indicate that lexical preconceptions in interrogative utterances in courtrooms have a variety of complex functions. There are four main categories of functions: interrogative truth functions with 154 data points, interrogative clarity functions with 95 data points, interrogative clarification functions with 62 data points, and interrogative time functions with 4 data points, totaling 315 data points. This study contributes to the development of pragmatic studies in the field of law, particularly by demonstrating the role of presuppositions in formal and strategic interactions in military courts. Additionally, this study expands the application of lexical presupposition theory in the context of interrogative communication, which has not been extensively researched.
