Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji makna denotatif dan konotatif yang muncul dalam komunikasi keluarga sebagaimana digambarkan dalam narasi film Noktah Merah Perkawinan. Film ini dipilih karena secara eksplisit menggambarkan dinamika relasi suami istri, peran keluarga besar, serta tekanan sosial yang memengaruhi komunikasi interpersonal dalam keluarga. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes, yang membedakan tanda ke dalam dua tingkatan makna: denotasi sebagai makna literal, serta konotasi sebagai makna yang bersifat emosional atau kultural. Analisis dilakukan terhadap sejumlah adegan dan dialog kunci yang merepresentasikan konflik dan proses komunikasi antar tokoh utama. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa komunikasi keluarga dalam film tersebut disampaikan bukan hanya melalui tuturan verbal, tetapi juga melalui simbol-simbol visual, ekspresi wajah, serta bahasa tubuh yang sarat akan makna konotatif. Beberapa adegan memperlihatkan bagaimana kegagalan dalam menyampaikan emosi, prasangka dalam hubungan, serta pengaruh nilai sosial budaya, dapat memperburuk hubungan antaranggota keluarga. Di sisi lain, ada pula representasi upaya membangun komunikasi empatik dan terbuka sebagai bentuk penyelesaian konflik. Melalui pemaknaan denotatif dan konotatif, film ini menyampaikan pesan implisit mengenai pentingnya komunikasi yang sehat dalam menjaga keharmonisan keluarga. Kritik sosial yang muncul dalam film ini mencerminkan realitas banyak keluarga di masyarakat modern Indonesia, di mana relasi gender yang timpang, tekanan untuk mempertahankan citra keluarga ideal, serta kurangnya ruang dialog dalam rumah tangga, seringkali menjadi pemicu konflik berkepanjangan. Film ini juga mengangkat isu tentang pentingnya memahami pasangan sebagai individu dengan latar belakang, kebutuhan, dan harapan yang berbeda, yang perlu dijembatani melalui komunikasi yang terbuka dan jujur. Berdasarkan temuan ini, peneliti memberikan saran agar masyarakat, khususnya pasangan suami istri dan calon keluarga muda, mulai membangun kesadaran terhadap pentingnya komunikasi dua arah yang empatik dan asertif. Pemerintah, institusi pendidikan, dan media massa diharapkan turut berperan aktif dalam mengedukasi masyarakat mengenai literasi komunikasi keluarga melalui beragam platform. Selain itu, para sineas Indonesia juga diharapkan terus memproduksi film-film bertema keluarga yang tidak sekadar menjadi hiburan, melainkan juga berfungsi sebagai sarana refleksi sosial dan pembelajaran nilai-nilai moral. Kata Kunci: komunikasi keluarga, denotasi, konotasi, film, semiotika, konflik rumah tangga ***** This research seeks to examine the denotative and connotative meanings embedded in family communication as depicted in the narrative of the film Noktah Merah Perkawinan (The Red Point of Marriage). The choice of this film is based on its vivid portrayal of marital dynamics, the involvement of extended family members, and the societal pressures that shape interpersonal interactions within the household. The research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, which distinguishes between two levels of meaning: denotation (literal meaning) and connotation (emotional or cultural meaning). The analysis focuses on key scenes and dialogues that represent conflict and the communication process between the main characters. The findings reveal that family communication in the film is expressed not merely through spoken language, but also through visual cues, facial expressions, and body movements, each bearing rich connotative significance. Several scenes demonstrate how failures in expressing emotions, prejudices within relationships, and the influence of social and cultural values can intensify family conflicts. On the other hand, the film also presents attempts to build empathetic and open communication as a way to resolve disputes. Through both denotative and connotative interpretations, the film implicitly conveys the message of how vital healthy communication is to maintaining family harmony. The film delivers a social critique that reflects the reality of many modern Indonesian families, where unequal gender relations, pressure to uphold the image of an ideal family, and the lack of open dialogue often become sources of prolonged conflict. It also raises awareness of the importance of recognizing partners as individuals with different backgrounds, needs, and expectations differences that must be bridged through honest and empathetic communication. Drawing from these results, this study suggests that the public particularly married couples and young families should cultivate a deeper understanding of the value of two-way, assertive, and empathetic communication. In addition, it encourages the government, educational institutions, and media to actively advance family communication literacy. Indonesian filmmakers are likewise urged to keep creating family-centered films that function not only as entertainment, but also as mediums for social reflection and moral learning.
