Abstract

***** Consumptive behavior has become increasingly prevalent among Generation Z and thus requires further investigation into its detemining factors. This study aims to analyze the influence of financial literacy, mental accounting, and pocket money on consumptive behavior, while exploring the role of gender as a moderating variable. This research employs a quantitative approach by distributing questonnaires to 395 students at Jakarta State University as the unit of analysis. The collected data was analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 4.0 software to examine the relationships among latent variables and moderation effects. The results indicate that financial literacy has a negative and significant effect on consumptive behavior, indicating that higher levels of financial literacy reduce students’ tendency toward excessive behavior. Conversely, both mental accounting and pocket money have a positive and significant effect on consumptive behavior, suggesting that categorizing money mentally and receiving greater pocket money increase consumptive tendencies. Furthermore, gender was proven not able to moderate the relationships between these variables and consumptive behavior, suggesting that the dynamics of consumptive behavior are similar between male and female respondents. Keyword: financial literacy, mental accounting, pocket money, consumptive behavior, generation z.
