Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk dan fungsi eufemisme dalam pemberitaan aksi unjuk rasa 25 Agustus–9 September 2025 . Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa simak, catat, dan dokumentasi. Data penelitian berupa kata, frasa, dan klausa eufemistis dalam pemberitaan aksi unjuk rasa 25 Agustus–9 September 2025. Analisis data dilakukan berdasarkan teori bentuk dan fungsi eufemisme menurut Sutarman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ditemukan 152 data eufemisme yang terdiri atas lima bentuk, yaitu metafora, kata serapan, perifrasis, singkatan, dan istilah asing. Bentuk yang paling dominan adalah metafora. Dari segi fungsi, ditemukan tiga fungsi eufemisme. Fungsi eufemisme paling banyak digunakan untuk menyamarkan makna, diikuti fungsi mengurangi rasa malu serta kesopanan dan kenyamanan. Adapun fungsi menghindari malapetaka dan melaksanakan perintah agama tidak ditemukan dalam data penelitian. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa eufemisme dalam pemberitaan politik dan hukum berperan sebagai strategi bahasa media dalam membingkai realitas dan mengelola isu sensitif. Kata kunci: eufemisme, pemberitaan, mediaindonesia.com *** ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the forms and functions of euphemism in news coverage of protest actions during 25 August–9 September 2025. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques of observation, note-taking, and documentation. The data consist of euphemistic words, phrases, and clauses found in the news coverage of the protest actions during the same period. Data analysis is conducted based on Sutarman’s theory of euphemism forms and functions. The results show that 152 euphemistic data were identified, consisting of five forms: metaphor, loanwords, periphrasis, abbreviations, and foreign terms, with metaphor being the most dominant form. In terms of function, three euphemism functions were found. Euphemisms are most frequently used to obscure meaning, followed by the functions of reducing embarrassment and maintaining politeness and comfort. The functions of avoiding misfortune and fulfilling religious obligations were not found in the data. These findings indicate that euphemism in political and legal news coverage functions as a media language strategy for framing reality and managing sensitive issues.
