Abstract

***** This study was motivated by limitations in eye contact ability among children with autism, which affect their low responsiveness to name-calling and difficulties in following classroom learning activities. The purpose of this study was to improve eye contact ability in a child with autism through the application of the Discrete Trial Training (DTT) technique. This study employed a Single Subject Research (SSR) method with an A–B–A design. The research subject was a 5-year-old child with mild autism attending a preschool. Data were collected through observation by recording the frequency of eye contact responses when the subject’s name was called. The data were analyzed using visual graph analysis. The results showed an increase in the frequency of eye contact responses during the intervention phase compared to the baseline phase. These findings indicate that the DTT technique is effective in improving eye contact ability as a basic skill to support communication and social interaction in children with autism in early childhood education settings Keywords: Children with Autism, Eye Contact, Discrete Trial Training.
