Abstract

***** Floods in Sumatra are among the natural disasters that cause numerous adverse physical and psychological consequences. One of the psychological impacts experienced by survivors is the emergence of symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Resilience, as a characteristic that helps individuals adapt, is often regarded as a protective factor against the development of PTSD symptoms; however, the relationship between resilience and PTSD remains inconsistent across previous studies. This study aimed to examine the effect of resilience on PTSD symptoms among flood survivors in Sumatra. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 204 flood survivors selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Resilience Scale and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) and were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicated that resilience did not have a significant effect on PTSD symptoms among flood survivors in Sumatra (p > .05), accounting for only 0.5% of the variance in PTSD symptoms. These findings suggest that PTSD symptoms among flood survivors may be influenced by various contextual and personal factors beyond resilience.
