Abstract
***** This study aimed to examine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by manipulative media on elementary school students' computational thinking skills in terms of their mathematical disposition. The study employed an experimental method using a posttest-only control group design with a 2 × 2 treatment-by-level design. The participants were fifth-grade students from elementary schools in Tamansari District, Bogor Regency, who were assigned to an experimental group (PBL assisted by manipulative media) and a control group (expository learning). Data on computational thinking skills were collected through an essay test measuring four components: decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking, while mathematical disposition was measured using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, including a Two-Way ANOVA followed by Tukey's Post Hoc test. The findings revealed that: (1) students taught through PBL assisted by manipulative media demonstrated significantly higher computational thinking skills than those taught through the expository model; (2) there was a significant interaction between the learning model and mathematical disposition on computational thinking skills; (3) among students with high mathematical disposition, PBL assisted by manipulative media resulted in higher computational thinking skills than the expository model; and (4) among students with low mathematical disposition, the expository model produced higher computational thinking skills than PBL assisted by manipulative media. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of a learning model is influenced by students' mathematical disposition. Therefore, the selection of instructional models should consider students' affective characteristics to optimize the development of computational thinking skills.
