Abstract

This study analyzed the process of production and consumption of the Bali Nine news in Metro TV and mainly focused on the coverage of the news presented in the programme Indonesia Now. The analysis for the process of production and consumption of the Bali Nine news implemented the encoding-decoding theory by Stuart Hall. Meanwhile, the analysis of the news coverage in Indonesia Now implemented the textual analysis by Fairclough. The result of the study determined the encoded meanings implanted by Metro TV during the production process of the Bali Nine news, the political view of Metro TV towards the Bali Nine news, as well as the decoding position of the viewers when watching the news in Metro TV, in particular the programme Indonesia Now. Penelitian ini menganalis proses produksi dan konsumsi berita Bali Nine di Metro TV dan menitikberatkan peliputan berita tersebut di acara Indonesia Now. Analisa proses produksi dan konsumsi berita Bali Nine menggunakan teori encodingdecoding dari Stuart Hall. Sementara itu, analisa peliputan berita tersebut di Indonesia Now menggunakan teori analisa tekstual dari Fairclough. Hasil penelitian ini bermuara pada makna yang ditanamkan Metro TV selama proses produksi berita Bali Nine, sudut pandang politik Metro TV terhadap berita Bali Nine, dan posisi pemirsa saat menonton berita tersebut di Metro TV, terutama di program Indonesia Now.
