Abstract
Penelitian ini dilakukan karena melihat banyaknya penggunaan second account instagram terutama pada Mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan IPS Angkatan 2019. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah:1) Mengetahui apa motif penggunaan second account instagram pada Mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan IPS Universitas Negeri Jakarta Angkatan 2019, 2) Mengetahui bagaimana penggunaan second account instagram pada Mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan IPS Universitas Negeri Jakarta Angkatan 2019. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 5 orang Mahasiswa aktif Program studi Pendidikan IPS Angkatan 2019, Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa: (1)Motif Mahasiswa Second account adalah sebagai personal identity, dimana second account telah menjadi jati diri mereka yang sebenarnya tanpa perlu mengkhawatirkan pandangan orang lain (2).Penggunaan second account Instagram pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan IPS cenderung sebagai pemenuh kebutuhan, dimana pada akun pertama mereka cenderung menciptakan dan mengharapka citra diri yang baik, sedangkan pada second account lebih apa adanya, dimana kebutuhan akan hiburan, pelampiasan stress, bahkan sisi dirinya yang tidak ditunjukkan pada akun pertama dapat mereka ekspresikan melalui second account nya . *** This research was conducted in response to the observed prevalence of second account usage on Instagram, particularly among students of the Social Studies Education Program, Class of 2019. The objectives of this study are: 1) To understand the motives behind the use of second accounts on Instagram among students of the Social Studies Education Program at Jakarta State University, Class of 2019, and 2) To examine how these second accounts are utilized by the aforementioned students. The research employs a descriptive approach with qualitative methods, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The research subjects consist of five active students in the Social Studies Education Program, Class of 2019. The findings indicate that: (1) The motive behind students' use of second accounts is to establish a personal identity, where the second account serves as their true selves without concern for others' perceptions, and (2) The usage of second accounts on Instagram among students in the Social Studies Education Program tends to fulfill personal needs. On their primary accounts, students tend to create and project a positive self-image, while on their second accounts, they express themselves more authentically. This includes the need for entertainment, stress relief, and the expression of aspects of themselves that are not showcased on their primary accounts.
