Abstract
Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana smartphone sebagai gaya hidup konsumtif pada kalangan mahasiswa Jakarta Business School dan untuk menjelaskan faktor mahasiswa dalam membeli smartphone. Lebih lanjut, Alasan peneliti memilih topik ini adalah karena smartphone berkembang begitu pesat akhirakhir ini sehingga remaja dan pelajar sering membelinya untuk keperluan pamer pribadi. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada teori masyarakat konsumtif Jean Baudrillard. Selain itu penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian studi kasus. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Jakarta Business School. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Februari hingga Desember 2023. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari delapan orang informan dari Jakarta Business School Institute. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan informan, observasi di lokasi penelitian, review penelitian terdahulu, dan data sekunder seperti sumber internet dan media sosial. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah adanya tingkat sosial yang terjadi di kalangan pelajar dan mahasiswa Institut Jakarta Business School. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, mahasiswa Jakarta Business School yang tergolong memiliki gaya hidup konsumtif adalah mereka yang membeli produk berdasarkan keinginannya, bukan kebutuhan gaya hidupnya. Faktor penyebab terjadinya fenomena antara mahasiswa laki-laki dan perempuan Jakarta Business School berada pada tingkat sosial. Tingkat sosial mempengaruhi perkembangan kepribadian mahasiswa Jakarta Business School. Perilaku konsumsi mahasiswa Jakarta Business School ditentukan oleh beberapa faktor seperti spesifikasi smartphone, gaya hidup, dan lingkungan. Saat membeli smartphone, fokusnya adalah pada aspek gaya hidup dan tren smartphone dibandingkan kebutuhan belajar. ***** This research aims to find out how smartphones are a consumptive lifestyle among Jakarta Business School students and to explain student factors in buying smartphones. Furthermore, the reason researchers chose this topic is because smartphones have developed so rapidly recently that teenagers and students often buy them for personal display purposes. This research is based on Jean Baudrillard's theory of consumer society. Apart from that, this research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research method. This research was conducted at the Jakarta Business School. The research was conducted from February to December 2023. The research subjects consisted of eight student informants from the Jakarta Business School Institute. Data was collected through indepth interviews with informants, observations at research locations, reviews of previous research, and secondary data such as internet sources and social media. The result of this research is that there is a social level that occurs among students of the Jakarta Business School Institute. Based on the findings of this research, Jakarta Business School students who are classified as having a consumptive lifestyle are those who buy products based on their desires, not their lifestyle needs. The factors causing this phenomenon between male and female students at Jakarta Business School are at the social level. Social level influences the personality development of Jakarta Business School students. Jakarta Business School students' consumption behavior is determined by several factors such as smartphone specifications, lifestyle and environment. When buying a smartphone, the focus is on lifestyle aspects and smartphone trends rather than learning needs.
