Abstract

Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk menjelaskan orientasi seksual dari karakter queer di dalam novel Ask The Passenger oleh A. S. King dan untuk menganalisis reaksi karakter terhadap respon keluarga dalam menanggapi perubahan orientasi seksual dari karakter tersebut. Objek dari skripsi ini adalah novel Ask The Passenger dari A. S. King yang terbit pada tahun 2012. Skripsi ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis dengan menggunakan Teori Homosexual Identity Formation dari Vivienne Cass untuk menganalisis tahap-tahap perubahan orientasi seksual dari karakter dan Teori Queer dari Judith Butler untuk menganalisis orientasi seksual dari karakter queer. Hasil dari skripsi ini menunjukkan bahwa Astrid Jones sebagai karakter queer mengubah orientasi seksualnya dari heteroseksual menjadi homoseksual. Keluarga Astrid sempat menolak perubahan orientasi seksualnya tetapi seiring berjalannya waktu dan keyakinan Astrid, keluarga Astrid dapat menerima perubahan orientasi seksual Astrid demi kebahagiaan Astrid. Mereka berpikir bahwa Astrid layak bahagia. This study aims to reveal the sexual orientation of the main character in A.S. King’s novel “Ask The Passengers” and to analyze the reaction of the queer character towards family response in the changing of the character’s sexual orientation. The object of the study is Ask The Passenger novel by A. S. King which was published in 2012. The study applies descriptive analytical method by using Vivienne Cass’s Homosexual Identity Formation theory to analyze the stages in the changing of queer character and Judith Butler’s Queer Theory to analyze the sexual orientation of the queer character. The result of the study shows that the character changed her sexual orientation from straight to queer. Astrid’s family once opposed her sexual orientation change but as the time goes by and by Astrid’s faith, her family can accept her queer identity because they think Astrid deserves to be happy.
