Abstract

Penelitian ini dibuat untuk menginvestigasi sebuah catatan belajar bertujuan untuk merekam pembelajaran siswa pada mata kuliah English for Business, khususnya dalam menulis surat keluhan dan lamaran pekerjaan. Melalui catatan belajar terintegrasi, penulis mencoba untuk melihat jenis – jenis umpan balik yang muncul, dan kelanjutan siswa dalam menggunakan umpan balik di surat yang sudah diperbaiki. Penelitian ini menggunakan case study sebagai alat penelitian. Peserta penelitian ini adalah para siswa di jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Negeri Jakarta yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah English for Business. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ketika siswa memberikan umpan balik dalam catatan belajar dari teman – teman mereka, mereka fokus pada unsur isi dan kebahasaan. Pemeriksaan lebih lanjut pada pembicaraan siswa menngungkapkan bahwa aspek tata bahasa (55%) lebih banyak daripada aspek kosakata (45%). Setelah melihat lebih dekat pada kerangka tulisan perbaikan para siswa, penulis menemukan bahwa umpan balik yang digunakan oleh para siswa dari teman mereka sebanyak 58% sementara 42% yang tidak digunakan pada kerangka tulisan perbaikan. ***** This study was conducted to investigate an integrated learning log aiming to record the students’ learning on English for Business Discourse course, specifically in writing complaint and application letter. Through integrated learning log, the researcher attempted to see the kinds of feedback appear and students follow up after receiving feedback as recorded in their learning log. This study uses a case study as a research design. The participant of the study is students in English Department Study Program at State University of Jakarta whom taking English for Business Discourse class. The findings of the study showed that when students gave feedback in their friends learning log, they focused on both (content and language). Further examination on students’ deliberation about language revealed that grammar aspect is apparent (55%) than vocabulary aspect(45%). After having a close look at students’ revision drafts, the researcher found that students used feedback from their peers as much as 58%, while 42% feedback were not accommodated in revised drafts.
